About Us

MACAW Engineering was originally created in 1996 by a number of Senior Engineers from the former British Gas Engineering Research Station.

Based in Newcastle (UK), MACAW Engineering employs over 40 full time staff comprising of Principal Consultants, Senior Engineers and Engineers covering a multitude of disciplines including Mechanical Engineering, Corrosion Engineering, Materials Engineering, Welding and Mathematics.

Many of our Principal Consultants are able to draw on over 25 years of industry experience & knowledge in Materials, Corrosion, Welding and Asset Integrity, allowing MACAW Engineering to work closely with global operators of oil & gas production facilities, pipelines and utility systems to develop and deliver cost-effective strategies to reduce risk, maintain integrity and extend the service life of client assets.

Dr Ian Diggory   BSc  MSc  PhD

Managing Director & Principal Consultant

Ian has over 30 years experience in computer modelling of complex systems ranging from nuclear interaction to pipeline integrity. Particular areas of expertise include:-

• Environmental noise problems
• Development and implementation of a wide range of technical software packages with applications in the onshore and offshore pipeline industries
• Development of risk based strategies to optimise inspection costs associated with extending the service life of ageing assets

 

Dr Lee Jones   BSc  MSc  PhD  CEng  MIM

Principal Consultant

Lee has over 28 years experience in the onshore and offshore gas industry, principally working at British Gas’ Engineering Research Station. Particular areas of expertise include:-

• Metallurgy and corrosion of high pressure pipelines, vessels and processing systems, covering low alloy and stainless steels
• Knowledge of integrity management, welding and non-destructive testing. Extensive knowledge of sour oil/gas cracking problems and the factors controlling them
• Experience of technical consultancy and successfully managing large teams delivering major programmes of work with budgets in excess of £3M

Principal Consultant

John has over 20 years experience in providing Integrity Management Services to the Oil & Gas industry worldwide. Particular areas of expertise include:-

• Integrity management services for structures, pipelines, refinery and power generation plants.
• Structural Integrity Assessments
• Fitness For Purpose Evaluations
• Remaining Life Assessments & Failure Investigations

 

Dr Colin Argent    PhD

Principal Consultant

Colin has over 30 years experience in providing Corrosion Consultancy Services to the Oil & Gas industry worldwide. Particular areas of expertise include:-

• Corrosion assessment, control and prevention strategies
• Risk Assessment
• Corrosion Management of high pressure onshore & offshore pipelines and associated plant equipment
• Integrity Management of high pressure pipeline systems

Mike has over 30 years experience of Corrosion Mechanisms, Diagnosis, Monitoring and Mitigation in the Oil & Gas industry. Particular areas of expertise include:-
